I am a part of a five, there are five people in my immediate family. I happen to be the the other little finger in my family, the thumb. The thumbs up, indicates I am encouraging, although sometimes it does not feel like much — its not like I am pushing or pulling at anything! Just sticking out, like a sore thumb..but the message is clear – I will encourage you, always! When we are all extended, I am definitely the shortest one. I do not seem like I can have ‘birthed’ those other fingers – The pointer: Oh boy! Always in the right, studious, quick to point, quick to think, always number one! The middle finger – Yup, tallest (and not necessarily in stature), gets big when it needs to, will stick it to you when you need to be put in your place. Without it the whole thing comes apart – The ring finger: The love, sweetest love of life, the perfect jewel to the five, it can stick out like the middle finger, but although it will have an effect it will just not be the same, its too sweet. The sweetest, most precious of all. The true little finger: Do not be fooled! Without the little finger a hand is not complete, heck! A hand is not truly a hand without it! The little finger may seem small but man is it mighty! If it gets injured or hurt, well damn! The whole hand may be done for. The true little finger – the most important finger of them all. Which brings us back to the thumb – the other little finger. The thumbs up finger. The one that can bend over backwards if needed, the one that is needed to grab a tool, grab a fork, grab on to something! When you make a fist, it is the thumb that faces up and out, the one that faces the world, what strikes first in order to protect the other fingers. You can’t really mess with the thumb, for without it we could not have evolved into the beings that walk this Earth. But thumbs get hurt too, and when they do, the entire hand (and arm even!) may fall apart. Even though things seem ‘normal’ they are not quite the same without the thumb. I am the thumb in my family, the other little finger.
